Hitting with a Future Star – My 2019 Session with Jeremy Jin

2019-05-29

On May 29, 2019, I had the unique opportunity to train and play matches with a young Jeremy Jin (Tong Jin) — who, even at just 14 years old, already displayed the remarkable talent and discipline that would later launch him onto the international tennis stage.

At that time, Jeremy was steadily rising through the junior circuit in Australia, competing in ITF junior tournaments and building a strong foundation in his game. But beyond his technical ability, what left the biggest impression was his laser-sharp focus, quiet confidence, and relentless drive to improve.

During our training session, every shot he hit had intention. He listened carefully, gave 100% in every drill, and played match points with composure and strategy well beyond his age. Watching him up close, you could already see the habits of a future professional in the making.

💬 Now, looking back — after seeing Jeremy go on to compete in all four junior Grand Slams, reach a world junior ranking of No. 42, and represent Australia internationally — I feel privileged to have shared the court with him in those early days.

It was a small moment in time, but one I’ll never forget. A reminder that greatness often begins in quiet, focused practice — long before the spotlight arrives.
